Polished Concrete & Bronze
28" x 9" x 13"
Inspired by the sea and its graceful inhabitants, Cachola represents a symbol of patience and persistence. Comprised of high quality GFRC concrete and cast bronze, each sculpture is 28" long and weighs roughly 25lbs. The name Cachola is derived from the the sperm whale's Portuguese name meaning, "Big Head".
It has taken me a better part of two years to develop my process from initial modeling to materials and mold making. As my techniques have improved, so to have the sculptures. Endless amounts of polishing and grinding gives each piece an individual personality, as well as one of a kind characteristics and textures inherently found in concrete
The latest piece, of an ongoing alloy series, utilizes the lost-wax casting process where I hand carve each tail and fluke in wax and then send it to the local foundry for casting. This particular piece was cast in solid bronze with a bronze base.
